The Man Behind the Wolf

Like all furries, as much as we love our fursonas, we can't be them 24 hours a day. When I'm not busy being Fritzy Wolf, I'm just plain Fritz. I'm currently attending College of Dupage, working towards an Associates Degree in Fine Arts for Architecture, and hoping to transfer after 2 years to get my Bachelors. I've been doing furry art for almost 2 years now, my very first pic looked a little something like this:

Hideous *shivers* But as you can see I've come quite a ways. Now I know I'm by far not one of the better artists out there. I know I've got a long way to go. I may be vain but I'm not stupid, hehe. My goal is just to draw, draw, and draw some more till I can finally keep up with some of the other artists I so aspiringly adore.

Now, some of you may be reading this and thinking: "I'm notoriously confuzzled! What in the name of Grandmother Gertrude's Goiter is a Furry??" ... or something along those lines. Well if you're thinking that than you're probably horribly lost in this website. Reguardless, I'll explain. The furry fandom, to me, is all about the love. I'll give a short history lesson. Back in August of 2004, I was quite a different person. I was shy, reserved, kept to myself and stayed within my small circle of friends. I knew nothing of the furry fandom, and nothing of the wonderous new chapter in my life that was about to unfold.

I spent a lot of my time (and still do for that matter) poking and prodding around the internet. One day I came to a forum, Yiffstar forums as it were. Here there were all these people talking about this crazy thing called the furry fandom. Each and every single one of them had a "fursona" that they went by, basically an alter-ego in animal form. I'm not sure what it was that got me, but I was instantly entranced. It was like a really bitchin' lightbulb just went off above my head. Something told me, that this was definatly for me.

The dillema I was faced with now was, what was my fursona going to be? I pondered, thought about various animals I liked: dragons, otters, coyotes, but it soon became clear what my totem creature was meant to be: the wolf. Always, since the day I first opened my tiny-pink eyelids, have I loved wolves. Just their aura, their power, their majesty, all entwined with their facinating social structure, all these things and more told me the wolf was right for me. Sure, there's a lot of wolves in the fandom. I've been criticized more than once for being unoriginal with my fursona, but hell, I don't give two shits and a pancake. I'm a wolf. I know I'm a wolf. Howl at the moon baby.

So I spent a few months if Yiffstar forums, meeting new people and having a lot of fun. Eventually I came across a group called LAFF, the Lake Area Furry Friends. LAFF was a group of furs that meet monthly and often more around the Northern IL / Southern WI areas. Right in my backyard. I joined the mailing list, and it wasn't long at all before I was meeting fantastic new friends and going to furmeets. Everything went up from there. Now I've got more fantastic friends than I could wag a tail at. Not to mention the best mate a wolf could ever ask for, Circa the golden fox. I am a furry. I think I've always been a furry, I just didn't realize it. And looking back, I wouldn't change a thing.
